2009 MOD Awards Winners Announced Friday, March 13, 2009 The third-annual MOD Awards have announced winners across seven categories. This year’s quantity of entries received was the program’s largest ever, and the judges proclaimed that the designs were “the best they’ve seen” since the MOD Awards debuted in 2007. The program, which recognizes modular exhibit design of several shapes and sizes, has quickly become the industry’s preeminent competition for creators of portable and systems-based exhibits and event structures. The winners were announced at the MOD ’09 event in Las Vegas on March 24. And in a unique twist, the audience themselves were the ones that selected the winners. With a nod to popular voting-based properties such as "American Idol" and "Dancing with the Stars," an all-star cast of judges (Famed designers Mitchell Mauk and Armen Gharbegian with globally respected exhibit house chief Derek Gentile of EEI Global) gave their comments on each finalist but MOD attendees were the ones that selected the actual winners in each, using Padgett Audience Response Systems technology. The event was hosted by well-known Hollywood celeb Leeza Gibbons.
